Her twenties were rather tumultuous, with addiction issues and an extremely abusive relationship. She spent years with Randy, trying to leave a few times with things escalating after each escape attempt. It got to the point where Sam was genuinely afraid for her life, and she finally enlists the help of her family - mostly her brother - to help her get away.

Randy somehow found out about Sam's plan. She wasn't ever sure how that happened, whether Randy simply snooped or one of their mutual friends caught wind of the plan and told him. But when the time came to put her plan in motion, he was there to stop her. An intense fight ensued, with the two of them basically tearing apart their shared apartment. It ended with Trav grabbing a knife, stabbing Sam in the lower abdomen as she was continuing to fight back. She managed to shove him away from her, which caused him to fall down a flight of stairs behind him.

Her brother arrived then, finding Randy motionless at the bottom of the stairs, and his sister collapsed on the floor in a rapidly growing pool of blood. Jay acted quickly to administer what little first aid he could and call for an ambulance, actions that would save Sam's life.

In the fall down the stairs, Randy had suffered a severe brain injury, and it was unknown how much he would recover, if at all. He and Sam were both taken to the nearest hospital, with Sam undergoing emergency surgery to treat her stab wound, during which one of her ovaries was removed. She already has fertility issues on top of it, so the likelihood of her getting pregnant and having a successful pregnancy goes down farther at this point.

When she came to, her father and brother were both there, and she was able to fill them in on what had happened. Despite literally saving her life, Jay felt guilty that he hadn't arrived sooner. Sam never blamed him for that, of course.

Officers interviewed her, preparing her statements in the event that Randy recovered enough to be arrested and face charges.

Suffice it to say, he didn't recover enough.

When Samantha left that hospital, she was free. From there, she split her time between staying with her brother and her father, finishing up her recovery from the stabbing as well as her addiction issues. She still drank from time to time, and couldn't fully kick the cigarette habit, but she was completely clean of any other drugs.

AU version, is all of this, except Sam became a single mother around 19 or 20 (not Randy's kid). Sam as a mom thoughts:

Despite her thinking she wouldn't be, she's actually a pretty good mom. She lost her own mother quite young, and what she remembers is bittersweet. In her mothering style, Sam tries to honor the best of her mother and let it guide her.

Her fa.ther and brother help out a lot with raising them. Though the kid - I lean toward her having a son but this isn't a permanent decision by any means - doesn't grow up with their father, they have two amazing male role models in their life with Uncle Jared and Papa Neil.

The child's father is dependent on the story. If another RPer is down to take on the role, I'm absolutely down for that, and we can hash out relevant details. Otherwise I can kinda just make up an NPC old boyfriend. It's cool either way!

It's in Sam's family and medical history that fertility is a struggle for the women in her family, including Sam herself. She was unlikely to have one healthy child, so this one is practically a miracle. Her stabbing basically makes it rare that she could biological children. Sometimes she's a little sad about this, thinking it might be cool to give her only child a brother or sister, but she's also aware that she's incredibly blessed already. She can make peace with the situation.

If you got this far, thanks for reading. <3
